What is a smart locker?

A smart locker is a secure storage compartment with an electronically controlled lock connected to software that identifies users or transactions, applies access rules, records activity and manages the workflow.

How smart lockers work

A user or operator presents an approved credential or creates a transaction. The system checks the relevant rules, releases the correct door, records the event and can notify the next person in the workflow.

Hardware and access

A complete system can include the locker bank, electronic locks, controllers, touchscreen, RFID or NFC reader, barcode or QR scanner, payment terminal, networking and optional charging or ventilation.

Software and integrations

Management software controls users, compartments, assignments, time limits, notifications, reporting and remote actions. APIs or agreed interfaces can connect access control, mailroom, retail, asset, HR and other platforms.

Common workflows

Smart lockers are used for employee storage, parcel collection, device and tool distribution, click and collect, public rental, secure handovers and other unattended collection or return processes.

How Hublok delivers

Hublok combines locker design and UK manufacture with electronic locking, configurable software, installation and lifecycle support. The team starts with the users, space and operating requirement, then coordinates the physical and digital elements as one project.
